The ASTROBASE project is an unique idea of the self-government of Kujawsko-Pomorskie Voivodship. Project consisting in building astronomy observatories network is an exceptional initiative not only in Poland, but also in Europe. We are the first and only region in Europe, where on such a small area of voivodship territory operates a network of fourteen fully-equipped astronomy observatories. The students can observe not only close objects of the Solar System, but also distant star constellations and islands of the Universe - galaxies millions light-years away from the Earth.
The Kujawsko-Pomorskie Voivodship is a perfect place for realization of the ASTROBASE project. In our region there is cultivated a rich astronomic tradition related to a person of outstanding astronomer Nicolaus Copernicus, but also there is top-level astronomic research being conducted these days.In the astronomy observatory located in Piwnice (around 15 km from Toruń) there are the biggest telescopes in Poland - 90 cm Schmidt-Cassegrain telescope and 32 m radio telescope. Toruń's planetarium is one of the biggest and most modern in the country. High competence level of the shows and visual-acoustic values for years have made the Toruń's planetarium great touristic attraction of the region. It all confirms that our region after building the network of 14 astronomy observatories can surely be called the centre of Polish astronomy.
